What Happens During a Repipe
During a whole house repipe, the existing hot and cold water piping is replaced with new PEX or copper lines. The process is planned to minimize disruption while restoring reliable water flow throughout the home.
Initial Setup and Preparation
Before work begins, the plumbing system is reviewed and new pipe routes are confirmed. Water service is shut off only while new lines are installed and connected.
- Review of fixture locations and pipe routes
- Protection of work areas as needed
- Temporary water shutoff during installation
Installation of New Water Lines
New piping is routed through walls, ceilings, attic, or crawl spaces depending on the home layout. Old pipes are abandoned and no longer used.
- Running new hot and cold water lines
- Connecting all fixtures and appliances
- Securing and supporting piping per code
Testing and Water Restoration
After installation, the system is pressure tested to confirm there are no leaks. Water service is restored once testing is complete.
- Pressure testing of the new system
- Verification of proper flow and pressure
- Same day water restoration in most cases
Access Openings and Repairs
Small access openings are made only where needed to install new piping. Drywall patching and painting are typically handled separately unless included in the scope of work.
Final Walkthrough
Once the repipe is complete, fixtures are checked for proper operation and the system is reviewed with the homeowner. Any required inspections are scheduled as needed.
